Meet Barry Kantrowitz


Barry was born in the Bronx and moved to Rockland County in 1967. Barry attended Fleetwood and Eldorado Elementary schools, Spring Valley Junior High School and Spring Valley High School. After his junior year in high school, Barry was accepted at Harpur College, SUNY Binghamton and graduated from there in 1982 with a BA in Political Science.  Barry attended Boston University School of Law where he was honored as a Paul J. Liacos Scholar and Edward Henessy Scholar. He graduated cum laude, with a Juris Doctor degree in 1985 and immediately returned to Rockland County to practice law. He is licensed to practice in the state and federal courts in New York, New Jersey and Florida, and the United States Supreme Court.  Barry was unanimously appointed to the Rockland County Legislature in January 2014 and served on the Public Safety, Multi-Services and Environmental Committees through December 31, 2014.

Barry is a graduate of the first class of Leadership Rockland (1990-91.) He has served on several local community boards including Junior Achievement of the Hudson Valley, The Rockland Community College Foundation (Executive Board,) Jewish Federation of Rockland and the JCC Rockland, where he served as President for several years. At the JCC Rockland, Barry was a driving force in the acquisition, construction and development of the JCC’s new Campus in West Nyack. Based upon his local service at the JCC Rockland, Barry was selected to serve on the board of the national JCC Association which is the continental umbrella organization for the Jewish Community Center Movement.

Barry Kantrowitz is a senior partner in the multi-state law firm Kantrowitz, Goldhamer & Graifman, P.C. He handles the day-to-day operations of the firm's litigation department, trying civil, negligence, criminal and corporate cases. Barry has an "AV Preeminent" peer review rating from Martindale Hubbell with a 5.0, the highest possible score. He has also been selected as a 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016  "Super Lawyer" in New York by Superlawyers.com.

Barry and his wife Sharon, an attorney who practices family law and provides mediation services, have lived in New City for the last 14 years. Their two younger children attend Felix Festa Middle School and Clarkstown High School North . Barry's oldest son is a teacher in the New York City School System and his oldest daughter is employed by Wells Fargo in Charlotte, North Carolina.
